our faith
Faith Formation/
OCIA
St. James the Greater Catholic Church is deeply committed to nurturing the spiritual journey of every parishioner. We strive to help children, youth, and adults grow in their Catholic faith through prayer, lifelong learning, and a vibrant community of faith dedicated to spiritual enrichment.
Children’s Faith Formation
St. James is committed to nurturing the faith of our youngest parishioners. Our programs include Sunday morning classes, parish religious education for elementary students, and dedicated preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
Youth Faith Formation
We are dedicated to accompanying our middle and high school students as they claim their Catholic faith as their own. Through vibrant youth group gatherings, transformative retreats, and focused preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, we provide a space for young people to deepen their relationship with Christ and find a supportive community of peers.
Adult Faith Formation
OCIA
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is an invitation for those seeking to enter the Catholic Church or complete their Sacraments of Initiation through prayer and study.
Bible Studies
Deepen your encounter with Sacred Scripture through seasonal workshops and guided group study, exploring the living Word of God and its application in our lives today.
Small Groups
Connect with fellow parishioners in an intimate setting for fellowship, shared prayer, and discussion on how to live out Catholic teaching in our modern world.
Becoming Catholic (OCIA)
A welcoming path for adults who have not received the sacraments and wish to discover the beauty of the Catholic faith.
Choosing to become Catholic is a profound step in your spiritual life. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a spiritual journey designed for those who have not yet received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist.
Throughout this journey, we welcome Inquirers exploring the faith, Catechumens who are unbaptized and preparing for initiation, and Candidates who are already baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Church. This process concludes for our Confirmandi as they are sealed with the Holy Spirit and fully join our parish family.
At St. James the Greater Catholic Church, our Faith Formation/OCIA preparations and celebrations adhere to the General Norms of the Diocese of Raleigh.
