Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick is a sacred encounter with Christ—a sacrament of healing for both the body and the soul, offering spiritual strength and peace during times of serious illness or frailty.
A Sacrament of Healing
Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing for both the body and the soul. It is a powerful sign of God’s love and mercy, intended to bring spiritual comfort and physical support to those suffering from serious illness, advanced age, or preparing for surgery.
Not Only for the Dying
Contrary to common belief, this gift is not reserved solely for those at the point of death. It is a source of grace for anyone whose health is seriously impaired, reminding us that we are never alone in our suffering and that Christ walks with us.
The Gift of Peace and Courage
The primary effect of the sacrament is the gift of the Holy Spirit, which brings peace, courage, and the strength to endure the difficulties of illness. It unites the sick person more closely to the Passion of Christ for their own good and that of the whole Church.
